Casa Capri Recovery Alumni Camille Cox on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in support of Dogs Matter

Camille Cox had hit rock bottom and lost everything she loved to her addiction so the thought of giving up her dogs to go into treatment was not an option. She learned of the program Dogs Matter from a close friend she had met in recovery years before, so she reached out to Stephen Knight, founder of Dogs Matter, for help.

Once Camille had found a solution for her dogs, she was able to feel that she was supported in starting her treatment journey. Her beloved dogs Harley, who appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show with Camille, and Rocco were put into a foster home through Dogs Matter in Texas and Camille came to Casa Capri Recovery in Newport Beach, CA, for treatment with us. Without this program, Camille would not have come to us to get the help she needed.

Shortly after she was released, she got her dogs back. With over five years of sobriety (2/21/16 is her sobriety birthday) and her boxer Harley still by her side, Camille is on a mission to spread the word about Dogs Matter all over the country so others like herself will be willing to go into treatment knowing their dogs are in safe hands.

Fast forward to a few months ago when a friend wrote a blog about Dogs Matter for InspireMore that caught the eye of a producer for The Kelly Clarkson Show. Dogs Matter got the call and Camille was asked to join them to tell her story alongside their mission and we are thrilled to share the episode and her experience with Kelly Clarkson!

On Friday, October 1, 2021, Camille and Stephen (of Dogs Matter) join Kelly on stage to talk about addiction, treatment, and recovery, plus the part that dogs play in helping their humans stay sober after they get home. Camille’s boxer, Harley, made the trip alongside his mama and loved every minute of it. Camille says that Kelly is a genuine, good soul—so real and lovely and she felt right at home once she got up on stage! We are so proud of Camille and her journey and thank her for speaking out about addiction and continuing to be the voice to help others get the help they need.

Please share the mission of Dogs Matter far and wide so we can help get this program the funding and attention it needs to grow and expand all over the country.
