what we TREAT

Addiction & Heroin Recovery

Heroin recovery is extremely difficult as it is an addictive, dangerous substance, and abuse rates have been on the rise in the U.S. since 2006. Addiction increases have been driven mainly by young adults between the ages of 18 and 25, with heroin addiction rates down for teenagers. In 2006, people who’d used heroin for the first time that year numbered 90,000, while in 2016, that number had jumped to 170,000. Estimates show that there are almost 1 million active heroin abusers in the United States.

Heroin is a depressant and gives the user a fast, intense, euphoric high that is relaxing and analgesic in effect. People often become addicted after the first use, and heroin recovery is difficult, and relapse rates are high with this particular drug. Unfortunately, heroin is also extremely deadly.

Heroin Recovery and Withdrawal

Because it is a highly addictive drug, heroin recovery and in particular withdrawal can impact both the physical and mental health of the user. In most cases, heroin recovery and detox can be extremely difficult to complete, as the severity of the symptoms often pushes individuals into relapse even before they manage to flush the drug out of their bloodstream. As such, a heroin detox is perhaps one of the most difficult detoxes that addicts can experience.

Heroin is a short-acting opioid that leaves the body rather quickly. Withdrawal symptoms can begin to appear even as soon as six hours after the last dosage. It usually peaks at 2-3 days and can last an overall of 5-10 days in total. However, each patient will experience withdrawal in different ways. An array of external factors can influence the severity of the symptoms, such as the history of addiction, other medical conditions, or other drugs that the patient took.

Our medical Doctors may use medication to flush the drug out of the patient’s system. This process usually lasts between five and seven days, but if the patient suffers from a more severe disorder, medical detox can take up to ten days to complete. Heroin recovery for users going through a detox process will be monitored by our medical Doctors 24 hours a day for the duration of your stay at our medically supervised detox
