Equine therapy gives our women struggling with the unhealthy emotional and mental patterns associated with substance abuse the opportunity to build confidence, develop personal responsibility, relieve stress and create new healthy habits as they grow as individuals.
Animal-assisted therapy has always been well-regarded among patients, but scientists and professionals are particularly intrigued and interested in the outcomes of it since the practice has started showing significant impact on the rehabilitation process. Recent studies have shown that animal-assisted therapy has had success in aiding patients with substance use disorders enrolled in residential addiction treatment programs. It even proved to be effective for adolescents or young adults undergoing inpatient and day treatment plans.
Any licensed physician, therapist, nurse or social worker can conduct animal-assisted therapy, but only after receiving specialized training. Moreover, the animals that are involved in the therapy, whether we’re talking about horses, dogs or rabbits, also have to receive training and follow a set of standards to make sure the therapy sessions will be both safe and effective.
The experience gained through equine therapy builds confidence and self-esteem in order to deliver the most effective and successful treatment experience to our women, at Casa Capri Recovery’s accredited alcohol and drug rehab. We offer a wide range of therapeutic modalities and innovative addiction treatment methods including experiential therapy. Equine therapy, part of our holistic substance abuse treatment program, is a chance for our clients to bond with and experience the healing power of horses.
The Healing Power of Horses
Animals have long been proven to be beneficial in the treatment of many types of mental conditions for people of all ages. Their ability to soothe, reduce stress and elevate mood are well known. For women in early recovery, equine therapy can be an especially valuable tool in helping her reestablish the ability to trust and create emotional bonds while giving her a deep sense of purpose.
Combined with our more traditional addiction treatment methods, such as cognitive behavioral therapy cbt, group and family systems therapy, adding equine therapy to her personalized addiction treatment program will give her the well-rounded and holistic healing experience she’ll need to create a meaningful life full of joyful and long-lasting sobriety.
